Kickball & Donuts: Playdate in Liberty State Park
“All you need is friends, love and donuts.”
You can’t buy happiness but you can buy donuts.
(And that’s kind of the same thing.)
We go together like coffee and Krispy Kreme donuts: Our morning hangout in the park segued into a game of kickball.
End-of-the-Year Social & International Day
“It’s the little moments that make life big.”
All Hail to the Queen! This June taste fest featured treats prepared by our diverse international community: mango lassie, pannekoeken, Korean rice crackers, dim sum, Cassave flour cookies, macaroons, caserecci, pasta, crepes and much more. Crafts galore and regional costumes transformed the black-top parking lot of the Lower School into a riot of color.
Movie afternoon magic
“Happiness is watching movies together.”
Movie+pizza+friends= fun-tastic afternoon. Our parent and student volunteers help to keep order and make sure all are happily fed with pizza and water.
Arctic Adventure Fall Book Fair
"I think it's the books that you read when you're young that live with you forever." J.K. Rowling
The Fall Book Fair is an OLC tradition. Our OLC community bought 2,453 books at last fall’s Book Fair sending the children off on a magical voyage that only a good book can provide. Dozens of books were purchased for the classroom libraries, thanks to the generosity of parents and the children who eagerly scoured their teacher's book wish bin. Arctic the Polar Bear and his helpers then delivered these books directly to the classrooms.
More than just another much-needed fundraiser, we aim to get our kids to read more, says Ms. Bia Takata, one of the fair co-chairs. An avid reader, she had directed kids to books appropriate for their age and reminded the young readers that “when you make the right choices, reading is more fun."
Spring Parent-Child Dance
“Dancing can reveal all the mystery that music conceals.” ~ Charles Baudelaire
Usually held at the end of March, this dress-to-impress spring party revives the spirit. Waltzing parents and their children have a chance to shake off the winter doldrums with an evening of flamenco, african dance and the unexpected - impromptu line dance atop the stage.
